OSHA Update: Electronic Filing and Penalties Increase

Just in case you missed the most recent releases from OSHA, we wanted to make sure that you were up to date on a few changes they have made. Below we recap and provide the OSHA links regarding the new ruling for the electronic filing for employers with 250 or more employees as well as the new increased OSHA penalties. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the AlaCOMP Loss Control Department. The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a final ruling regarding employee privacy that directly impacts the electronic submission rule.

Now, employers with 250 or more employees no longer must submit the OSHA Form 300 or the OSHA Form 301 each year. The requirement will be to only submit the summary which is OSHA Form 300A. This ruling only effects employers with more than 250 employees, as those with less than 250 employees were already required to submit the OSHA Form 300A previously. The electronic submission period opens on January 2nd each year and runs through March 2nd. Submissions are no longer allowed after March 2nd.
