The purpose of machine guarding is to protect the machine operator and other employees in the work area from hazards created during the machine’s regular operation. In the Machine Guarding Series, we will cover LOTO, fixed barriers, and interlocked guards in the workplace.
Interlocked guards automatically shut down a machine’s operation to prevent a worker from being exposed to potential hazards. In the video below, Scott Hunter will explain how interlocked guards work, examples of interlocked guards, and how often interlocked guards should be inspected.
