What to do when a work injury occurs:
- Determine the best course of medical action, i.e., first aid, general occupational physician, emergency room. Direct appropriate care.
- Complete an accident investigation. Fill out the proper forms and get the proper statements.
- Do not make a final decision. We are here for your protection. Do not deny a claim without filing it first.
- Consult us before proceeding past the immediate medical treatment and investigation. Provide us with the results of your investigation and let us handle it.
Filling out the First Report of Injury (FROI):
- Fill out the first report completely.
- The state requires electronic reporting (EDI) of all fields on the first reports. If the FROI is not complete, we are unable to add it in our systems.
- Word the report carefully. These are discoverable in court and can be given to providers for demographic purposes.
Things an Employer Should Do:
- Recognize notice.
- Have your medical protocol in place and respond immediately. Make sure you know who the initial authorized treating physician.
- Do the paperwork.
- Keep open communication.
- FILE THE REPORT ASAP.
Things an Employer Should NOT Do:
- Do not make judgment.
- Do not fail to act.
- Do not make authorizations. Call AlaCOMP, your carrier.
- Do not fail to file the report timely.
