Recap of 2018

January 05, 2019

Following the close of 2018, an annual review reveals many of the same incidents continue to occur resulting in accidents and injuries. As noted in previous years, slips and falls lead all other incidents in frequency and cost. Injuries in the workplace can be prevented with more attention placed on keeping the workplace clean and organized, along with following safety protocol. In 2019, the priority is to eliminate the risk factors causing these injuries. Contact the Loss Control consultants for assistance in preventing accidents and injuries. Also, the Online Safety Library contains thousands of accident prevention resources. The Online Safety Library provides a variety of safety materials for all members to use in implementing safety programs and training. Since January is Accident Investigation Awareness Month, AlaCOMP provides a helpful platform with suggestions for creating an accident investigation program and a checklist to follow.

Additionally, available in the Online Safety Library located under the accident investigation category are PowerPoints, handouts and training tools for employees and supervisors available in both English and Spanish. Program self evaluations or audit forms help keep the program current and relevant. There are articles on accident investigation and a section containing the newest OSHA accident reporting rules, which is a must-read for avoiding costly reporting mistakes.
