Do You Have An Accident Prevention Plan?

May 24, 2023

Importance of Accident Prevention Program

Within any workplace setting, injuries may occur. Employers should implement an Accident Prevention Program and train employees to reduce the chances of injury for the following reasons:

  • help reduce injuries/accidents
  • identify hazards before they cause accidents
  • ensure employees are properly trained to understand safety rules and proper procedures
  • proper handling of an accident upon occurrence

An Accident Prevention Program can help reduce the number of accidents within the workplace and lower the experience mod, which ultimately reduces costs to the employer.

For example, a tire shop has 35 employees. The shop reported 13 minor claims with one high cost claim, a shoulder injury ($29,000), within a 3-year span. The following year, the shop’s premium rate increased $10,000. To compensate for the $10,000 increase, the shop needs $100,000 in additional business. The existence of an Accident Prevention Program may eliminate some of these claims or reduce the injuries.

Taking the necessary steps to implement proper programs and training can prevent employees from becoming injured.
